Recycled Nylon Jersey Fabric
Recycled nylon jersey is a knit fabric made from regenerated nylon fiber — commonly sourced from discarded fishing nets, pre-consumer nylon waste, or post-industrial nylon scrap. It combines nylon's characteristic strength, stretch recovery, and smooth surface with a reduced-impact raw material story. Tianhong's recycled nylon jersey is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified and suited to swimwear, lingerie, activewear, and close-fitting apparel.
Introduction
Nylon has long been the fiber of choice for swimwear, lingerie, and technical activewear because of its high tenacity, soft surface, and excellent elastic recovery when blended with spandex. Recycled nylon — often referred to in the market by source brands such as ECONYL® — delivers the same fiber properties while reducing virgin nylon production and diverting waste materials from landfill or ocean disposal.
Tianhong produces recycled nylon jersey in both standard and matte-finish constructions, with spandex blends available for stretch applications. The fabric is suited to categories where high mechanical performance is expected alongside a sustainability narrative — swimwear, sportswear, and premium intimate apparel being the most common.
Custom blend ratios and finishes are available through our R&D team. Certification documentation including OEKO-TEX is provided per batch.

Application
- Swimwear: Nylon's resistance to chlorine and saltwater — retained in the recycled version — makes recycled nylon jersey the standard fabric choice for competitive and leisure swimwear.
- Lingerie and Intimates: The smooth, silky surface and secure four-way stretch suit bras, briefs, bodysuits, and other close-fitting intimate apparel.
- Activewear and Sportswear: High stretch recovery and durability under repeated mechanical stress make it suitable for leggings, sports bras, cycling shorts, and compression garments.
- Dance and Stage Wear: The combination of four-way stretch, smooth surface, and color clarity makes recycled nylon jersey a good match for dance costumes and performance apparel.
- Athleisure: Matte-finish variants have grown in popularity for premium athleisure pieces where a less reflective, more refined surface is preferred.
Advantage
- High Mechanical Performance: Nylon's inherent tenacity and abrasion resistance are maintained in the recycled version — fabrics hold up under the stretch, friction, and chlorine exposure that synthetic jersey alternatives often struggle with.
- Excellent Stretch Recovery: The combination of nylon's elasticity and spandex content delivers consistent four-way stretch with strong recovery, maintaining garment shape through active use and repeated washing.
- Chlorine and UV Resistance: Important for swimwear applications — recycled nylon jersey resists degradation from pool chlorine and UV exposure better than polyester alternatives in direct comparison.
- Waste Diversion: Recycled nylon production diverts discarded nylon materials — including ocean-bound fishing nets — from waste streams, offering a more tangible environmental story than standard rPET for certain buyer audiences.
- Matte Finish Option: A matte surface treatment gives the fabric a premium, low-sheen aesthetic increasingly requested in sportswear and athleisure, differentiating it from standard high-gloss nylon jersey.

FAQ
- Q: How does recycled nylon jersey compare to recycled polyester jersey for swimwear?
- A: Both are used in swimwear, but nylon is generally the preferred choice for competitive and performance swimwear because of its better chlorine resistance and softer surface feel. Polyester is more common in budget swimwear and surf-oriented styles. For brands positioning in the performance or premium segment, recycled nylon is the stronger specification.
- Q: What is the difference between standard and matte finish recycled nylon jersey?
- A: Standard recycled nylon jersey has a smooth, slightly reflective surface typical of conventional nylon knits. Matte finish applies a surface treatment that reduces sheen, giving the fabric a more understated, premium look. Matte finishes are especially popular in high-end athleisure and yoga wear. The treatment does not affect stretch or performance properties.
- Q: What spandex percentage do you recommend for swimwear versus leggings?
- A: For swimwear, 20% spandex is typical — the higher content compensates for stretch reduction that can occur with repeated chlorine and saltwater exposure over time. For leggings and general activewear, 15–18% spandex is usually sufficient. We can advise further once you share your end-use specification.
