Modal Interlock Fabric
-- Steady & Reliable Manufacturer --
Modal interlock fabric is a double-knit textile made from modal fiber, offering a smooth face on both sides, excellent dimensional stability, and a soft, comfortable hand feel. It is well suited to T-shirts, bodywear, underwear, and premium everyday basics.
Introduction
Modal interlock is produced by interlocking two separate layers of rib knit construction, resulting in a fabric that is smooth on both faces, more stable than single jersey, and less prone to curling at cut edges. The base fiber — modal — is a regenerated cellulose fiber derived from beech wood, produced through a resource-efficient closed-loop process.
The double-knit structure of interlock gives the fabric greater body and opacity than single jersey at equivalent weights, making it suitable for bodywear, fitted tops, and underwear where coverage and shape retention are important. Modal's high moisture absorption and smooth fiber surface contribute to a comfortable, breathable wearing experience. This fabric is available with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification.
Nantong Tianhong Textile Technology Co., Ltd. offers modal interlock in a range of weights and blends. Optional spandex content can be incorporated for improved stretch and recovery, and custom dyeing is available to support diverse seasonal collections for brands in global apparel markets.

Advantage
- Double-Sided Smooth Surface: Interlock construction produces a clean, smooth face on both sides, suitable for garments where interior comfort and exterior appearance are both important.
- Dimensional Stability: The double-knit structure reduces fabric curling and stretching, improving cutting accuracy and garment shape retention during wear and washing.
- Soft Modal Fiber: Modal's fine fiber diameter and smooth surface result in a fabric that is gentle against the skin, well suited to bodywear and extended daily wear.
- Good Opacity: The interlock structure provides greater coverage than single jersey at comparable weights, reducing the need for additional lining in fitted garments.
- Moisture Comfort: Modal absorbs moisture efficiently, supporting comfort during wear and reducing the clammy sensation associated with synthetic alternatives.
- Q: What is the difference between modal interlock and modal jersey?
- A: Modal interlock is a double-knit construction with two smooth faces, greater stability, and more body. Modal jersey is a single-knit fabric that is lighter and more drapeable but more prone to edge curl.
- Q: Is this fabric suitable for underwear?
- A: Yes. The smooth double-sided surface, soft hand feel, and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification make modal interlock a practical choice for underwear and bodywear applications.
- Q: Can the spandex content be adjusted?
- A: Yes. The spandex ratio can be increased for more stretch or removed entirely for a more stable, structured fabric. Please specify your requirements when inquiring.
- Q: What certifications are available?
- A: OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification is available for this fabric.
- Q: What is the lead time for samples?
- A: Fabric communication is completed within 3 days and sample production within 15 days.
